Cell Phones/ Smart Watches

At Farb, we recognize it is important for families to stay connected with their students when walking to and from school. The research, however, is increasingly clear that cell phones and social media have many negative side effects, especially for middle school children. That is why Farb will be enforcing SDUSD's board policy H-6980:

•       All Farb students must have their cell phones turned off and in their backpacks prior to entering campus.

•       They can use their phones when school ends at 2:26 pm /1:02 pm (depending on the day).

•       Unauthorized use is grounds for confiscation of cell phone by school officials and classroom teachers.

Students who have their cell phone confiscated for unauthorized use may be given a 1-time warning and pick it up in the office after school. If a student has their cell phone confiscated a second time or more, then a parent will be required to pick it up.

Please note that it is prohibited for students to take pictures or videos of other students/staff while on campus. Not only will a student have their cell phone confiscated, but they will also be required to delete the picture/video, and additional consequences may be assigned.

Smart Watches/Earbuds

Smart Watches and Earbuds follow the same policy as the cell phone. Students are not to have earbuds in their ears while at school. In addition, if a student has a Smart Watch, they are not to use the phone for talking, texting, or taking pictures or videos during school hours. They will be confiscated as well. See cell phone policy.

Repeated unauthorized use of such devices may lead to disciplinary action.  Please visit the district website www.sandiegounified.org for further information.
