Farb Attendance Policy
Attendance has a direct correlation with student achievement. Basically, higher attendance rates will lead to higher academic success!
SCHOOL HOURS
9:00 am to 3:55 pm (M, T, W, F) and
9:00 am to 2:30 pm (Thursdays only)
Students must not arrive earlier than 8:30 am when campus gates are open and supervision begins. The only exceptions are for students enrolled in the Prime Time (6-to-6) program and students attending a Zero Period class.
REPORTING AN ABSENCE
Parent need to call the school at (858)397-6750, ext. 3012 on the first day of a child's absence and each day thereafter. When leaving a message, please include the following information:
-
Date of absence
-
Student's full name
-
Parent/Guardian's name
-
Reason for absence
EXCUSED ABSENCE vs. UNEXCUSED ABSENCE
The only absences that are excused as mandated by the State of California are those due to illness, medical, or dental appointments, funeral services and bereavement, court appearances, family emergencies, Independent Study contracts (if completed), or religious holidays or ceremonies. Five or more days of an absence due to illness will require a note from the doctor.
EXTENDED ABSENCE
If students miss 5 or more days due to extended vacation, emergencies, tiger cruise, etc., they must contact the Attendance Clerk. Please notify at least five (5) school days before the planned absence to arrange an Independent Study Contract. After the student meets the conditions of the contract, he/she will receive an excused absence.
TARDINESS
Students are expected to arrive to school and to each class on time. Students who arrive after school begins must report to the office to receive a Late Pass. Any tardy other than a medical reason is unexcused. Additionally, repeated or habitual tardiness may result in disciplinary actions, including detention, Saturday School, and LOP. Students with citizenship below 2.0 GPA may become ineligible for end-of-the-year activities, including 8th grade promotion.
LEAVING SCHOOL
It is important to schedule all appointments outside of school hours. Thursday after 2:30 is a perfect time to take care of dental and medical appointments. If students need to leave during the school day, please come to the school office. Once parents arrive at the office, the student will be released from class. Please do not text your student to come to the school office during the school day as all student cell phones are to be turned off. Any cell phone use by students will result in immediate removal of the cell phone. Any student leaving campus early without a blue slip is considered truant and will receive appropriate discipline.
If a student becomes ill or injured during the school day, the teacher will send the student to the office with a pass. If necessary, the parents will be contacted. There may come a time that we cannot reach a parent, so we suggest that everyone provide at least two emergency contacts on the Student Information Card contained in the Registration Packet. In addition, parents should immediately notify the school to report changes in address, home phone number, work number, or emergency contact numbers.
PASSES
Passes are required by all students who are out of class other than during passing periods. Only a written pass from the teacher will admit students to the office or to the Health Office. Restroom passes are issued by individual teachers according to their classroom rules.
